Yolanda Uriz, born in Pamplona (ES) in 1982, is an interdisciplinary artist whose work bridges science and art through sensory perception. Educated at the ArtScience Interfaculty of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, she has developed a practice that focuses on creating immersive, multi-sensory experiences. Her installations often combine sound, scent, and digital technology to explore the synesthetic connections between different senses, particularly those of proximity such as smell, taste, and touch. During her residency, Yolanda will continue her exploration of the synesthetic interplay between sound and smell, utilising digital tools, DIY perfumery, and materials experimentation to push the boundaries of sensory experience. Her work invites audiences to engage with their environment in novel ways, fostering a deeper connection with the non-human world.
As part of her residency, Uriz will present a talk on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Instituto Cervantes in Utrecht. In this presentation, she will delve into her research on interspecies communication through olfactory and auditory channels, discussing how her work seeks to establish a dialogue between humans and plants using scent and sound as mediums to convey messages of care and empathy.
