Workshop Coded Kitchen Percussion
In this workshop, hosted by digital artist and livecoder Timo Hoogland, we’ll turn everyday objects into playable electronic instruments!
You’ll learn how to build and use a piezo-electric contact microphone, a tiny sensor that lets you pick up sound from any surface (think wood, glass, or even a frying pan). Once connected, you’ll dive into PlugData, an open-source, node-based programming environment. Using this software, we’ll code reactive sound patches that trigger samples or effects whenever you tap, knock, or hit your chosen object.
By the end of the day, you’ll have a custom electronic “drum” that reacts to your touch, and the skills to keep experimenting after the workshop!
Please bring your laptop, a pair of wired headphones, and (if you have one) an audio interface.
