ITERATIONS 2023 - Workshop E-Textiles x Creative Coding
WORKSHOP: E-Textiles x Creative Coding with Michelle Vossen
🧠 Theory:
Components are boring! Let's craft soft sensors ourselves and create tangible interactions that make you to move your hands and body in different ways. During this workshop you will learn how to use various textile techniques like crochet and spool knitting to make your own sensor that responds on strokes, stretching and squeezing. We're going to embed the sensor in a garment so we can wear and visualize the interaction with them using Processing.Through embroidering, knitting or felting with a combination of conductive and resistive yarn, you can create your own variable resistors. It can then be used to translate touch and movement into whatever output you like.
🎓 Workshop Highlights:
- Textile Techniques: Learn crochet and spool knitting to craft sensors that respond to strokes, stretching, and squeezing.
- Garment Embedding: Integrate your sensor into a garment for wearable, interactive experiences.
- Processing Visualization: Explore how Processing can visualize your interactions, turning them into dynamic and expressive outputs.
🚀 Create Your Own Variable Resistors:
- Through embroidery, knitting, or felting with conductive and resistive yarn, craft variable resistors.
- Translate touch and movement into personalized outputs of your choice.
❗️❗Workshop Requirements:
- Bring your own garment (if possible) to turn into a wearable
- Processing experience is nice to have but also not required
