Creative Coding Utrecht goes to Next Level festival
14 Nov 2025
We're curating a programme at Next Level festival in Dortmund!
During his residency at CCU, Benjamin Gaulon developed the first Internet of Living Things (IoLT) prototype. Emerging from research into electroculture, a century-old practice that channels atmospheric electricity into soil to stimulate plant growth. Built from found materials and inspired by permaculture principles, these electroculture antennas act as technological totems: grounded in soil yet reaching skyward, hosting both circuitry and living plants.
Blurring the lines between science, folklore, and speculation, IoLT explores questions of resilience, reuse, and reconnection: Can electromagnetic fields nurture plants without chemicals? Can obsolete hardware find new life as a host for growth? What happens when the infrastructures of digital capitalism are re-rooted into earth and sunlight?
Through critical making, Gaulon weaves technology, ecology and poetry, where experiments fail, grow, and transform into living monuments of a post-digital era.
