Calendar
At Creative Coding Utrecht we organise a range of monthly events that cater to different interests, age groups and skill level. We aim to help you develop your connection with all things coding, no matter how foreign the subject might seem to you.
Have no idea what Creative Coding means? Have a background in programming but you wouldn’t know where to start making your own, creative stuff? Or do you simply want to enhance your pre-existing skills and create even more flashy visuals, animations and more?
Filter our events by topic and accessibility level, there is something for everyone. To look up any of our past events, check out the archive.
Rooted Networks Workshop: Building and Tuning LoRa Antennas for Mesh Networks
TicketsIn this hands-on workshop, People of Earth introduces participants to LoRa radio and antenna building through hardware experimentation. This is a system which is used to send data on long distances with low power, and can be used to power mesh networks. Each participant will build their own simple dipole antenna and learn some of the basic principles behind radio communication, wavelength and antenna design - beginners welcome! We’ll use a network analyser to test and tune the antennas, so participants can see how small physical changes affect how an antenna performs. We’ll also use Software Defined Radio (SDR) to visualise some of the radio activity around us and explore the otherwise invisible signals moving through the space.
The workshop complements the Reticulum repeater workshop taking place during the same weekend. While that workshop focuses on setting up a network node, this workshop focuses more closely on one of the physical parts that makes wireless communication possible in the first place. Participants will also be able to take their antenna home with them afterwards.
This workshop is part of our ongoing project/research Rooted Networks, made possible by the Creative Industries Fund NL and Gemeente Utrecht.
