Datawalk: the Treasures on the Street
Litter on the streets… Harmful to the environment and an eyesore.
During the Datawalk, we invite you to pay attention to the waste and ugliness in your surroundings. We’ll take a plogging walk (picking up plastic while walking) through the neighborhood, capturing as many impressions as possible with our phones. The result? A visual log of the route—and a cleaner street!
We’ll also look through different eyes:
- What kinds of waste do you encounter in the neighborhood?
- What does this say about the place and the consumption habits of our messy neighbors?
- Do you recognize the raw materials that make up the discarded items?
- Is there actually anything still useful, anything of value?
What is a Datawalk?
A Datawalk is a walk where impressions are recorded using your phone—photos, videos, text, or audio clips. This data is then compiled into a digital map, providing an overview of the route and the observations made. It becomes especially interesting when participants are given a specific task or perspective. In a short time, a small citizen-led investigation takes place.
Workshop Flow:
- Introduction and installation of the Telegram app + Datawalk chat*
- Start of the walk: observing and recording
- Reviewing the walk using the digital map
*Not everyone needs to bring a phone. One person can observe while another records.
Result:
A digital map showcasing unique findings from the neighborhood.
