Fabian van Sluijs, born in 1981, is a dynamic programmer and organizer specializing in digital arts and culture. His academic journey includes a bachelor's degree in Cultural Studies and Art History (2013) and a master's degree in New Media & Digital Culture (2016).
In 2011, Fabian co-founded the FIBER Festival in Amsterdam, setting the stage for his deep dive into the fascinating realm of digital creativity. This venture laid the groundwork for subsequent enriching experiences, including pivotal internships at Virtueel Platform (2012) and the Artistic Technology Research Lab in Vienna (2013), now known as RIAT. These experiences fueled his passion for investigating the intricate processes underlying the aesthetic fabric of digital art and culture.
The culmination of Fabian's academic exploration manifested in his thesis, "Post-Digital Anxiety," where he eloquently argued for the critical examination of creation processes behind digital artworks to contextualize and analyze contemporary challenges within our data-driven society.
However, it is his role as the founder and creative director of Creative Coding Utrecht that takes center stage in Fabian's narrative. This community driven initiative, born out of his passion for exploring creation processes, has become a driving force in contributing to the creative ecosystem of Utrecht and beyond. Through Creative Coding Utrecht, Fabian continues to lead, inspire, and actively shape the creative landscape, showcasing his dedication to fostering innovation, collaboration, and the transformative power of digital arts within his beloved city and the broader community.
